Winter storm warning: parts of GTA could see up to 25 cm of snow Friday evening into Saturday

Brace yourselves, GTA! Big snowstorm brewing for Friday night!

Heads up, Toronto friends! A major winter storm is set to blast parts of the Greater Toronto Area with up to 25 centimeters of snow starting Friday evening and lasting into Saturday morning. That's enough to build a snowman army!

Here's what you need to know:

Areas affected: The heaviest snowfall is expected in Caledon, Uxbridge, Beaverton, Northern Durham Region, Newmarket, Georgina, and Northern York Region. Don't be surprised if other parts of the GTA see significant accumulation as well.

Snowfall rates: Get ready for a white-out! Peak snowfall rates of 2 to 5 centimeters per hour are possible, creating a potential blizzard situation. Visibility will be severely reduced, so travel is not recommended during the storm.

Blowing snow: Strong winds will whip up the freshly fallen snow, creating blinding whiteouts and drifts on roads. Stay home if possible, and if you must travel, take extreme caution.

Timing: The snow is expected to start Friday evening and continue through the night, tapering off by Saturday morning. So, prepare for a snowy slumber party!

Here are some tips to stay safe and warm during the storm:

Stock up on food and supplies: Make sure you have enough groceries and essentials to last through the weekend, especially if power outages occur.

Charge your devices: Keep your phone, laptop, and other electronic devices fully charged in case of power loss.

Clear your driveway and walkways: Remove snow before and after the storm to prevent falls and ice buildup.

Check on neighbors: Especially vulnerable seniors who might need help with snow removal or errands.

Stay informed: Monitor weather updates and reports for the latest information on the storm's progress and severity.

Remember, safety comes first! Bundle up, stay cozy, and enjoy the snowfall from the comfort of your home. This storm might be a doozy, but we'll weather it together, GTA style!
