Oppenheimer' dominates Golden Globes as 'Poor Things' upsets 'Barbie' in comedy

Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer detonated with an atomic force of wins at the Golden Globes, scorching the competition with four major awards and solidifying its position as the frontrunner for the Oscars. The epic biopic about the "father of the atomic bomb" dominated the drama categories, capturing Best Drama Film, Best Director for Nolan, and Best Drama Actor for a hauntingly nuanced Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer. Robert Downey Jr. also delivered a searing performance as Lewis Strauss, snagging the Best Supporting Actor trophy.

But the night wasn't without its delightful surprises. In the realm of laughter, Yorgos Lanthimos' darkly comedic gem, Poor Things, pulled off a cheeky heist, snatching the Best Comedy or Musical award from the highly-anticipated Barbie, leaving Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie's pink-hued dreamscape slightly deflated. Emma Stone, resplendent in her unconventional turn as a Victorian lady with a revolutionary brain transplant, added another Globe to her collection for her role in the film.

The television categories saw Succession retain its crown as Best Drama Series, proving there's no dethroning this dysfunctional dynasty anytime soon. Meanwhile, The Bear, a frenetic and hilarious ode to Chicago's culinary underbelly, clawed its way to victory in the Best Comedy Series category, its young chef Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) finally getting a taste of sweet success.

Overall, the 81st Golden Globes was a night of explosive drama, unexpected turns, and a healthy dose of laughter, proving that Hollywood's awards season is still capable of throwing up some delightful surprises. So, fasten your seatbelts, film fans, because the awards race is about to get even hotter!
